Potentials and Interactions

About this event
Tourism holds a significant economic development potential, particularly in rural areas. This in turn often enables the establishment of protected areas and thus safeguarding biodiversity. In addition, tourism offers chances for strengthening the economic participation of women. When addressed conjointly, the potential for biodiversity conservation and women's economic empowerment could be increased. Consequently, promoting women's employment especially on management level is a key element of development and protected area strategies thus providing impetus for socio-ecological transformation in the partner countries of German international cooperation.
This panel discussion sheds light on the potential and interactions between rural development, biodiversity conservation and women's economic empowerment and provides insights into initiatives of the private tourism sector and German development cooperation.
